What is Mosaic Recovery?
Mosaic Recovery is a multi-tiered, individually-tailored response to help people who struggle with EDs by reconnecting them to hope and what matters most in life.
We all come to the table with different traits, characteristics, gifts, talents, and personalities. We are a mosaic of diversity and uniqueness by design and that’s what makes us beautiful. When we come together in support of one another, we not only recognize our differences that lie in our strengths but also the shared commonalities we possess.
What’s universal among us is the inclination for relationships. People are socially engineered to need each other whether that connection is demonstrated through friendship, family, romantic love, or….with self. Yet over time, EDs disrupt and inevitably disconnect those relationships leaving individuals feeling isolated, powerless, and hopeless. Further, we live in a society where beauty is defined by someone’s aesthetic and messages of worth and happiness are framed within this definition can make what makes us beautiful seem meaningless.
Because EDs are a human condition, they are not just regulated to a certain segment of people. They’re indiscriminate and know no ethnicity or gender. Mosaic was derived from the notion that as a human race we are all connected in this world, we can help each other, and anyone regardless of their diverse nature can be affected by these illnesses. Even in the Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) community, there is great demand for support by people of color in this area of health, which can prove to be helpful especially as African Americans for example have the lowest treatment-seeking rate of any population (Striegel-Moore, 2003).

There is an ever-growing need for adequate and accessible care during the time when it can be most critical - in between traditional treatment sessions with therapists and nutritionists - for those who suffer. Mosaic Recovery exists to provide hope and a future for all people to live a life free of an ED by creating a safe space, in the here and now, free of judgment for healing and empowerment. Mosaic empowers those seeking support and guidance in recovery from EDs with the right resources to encourage hope for healthier minds, bodies, and souls. Because everyone is embedded with a core healthy self, all can heal.
Mosaic’s coaching services serve each client on their individual journeys of healing to achieve the goal of full recovery from an ED and help to positively re-establish their relationships with food, their bodies, and others through progressive behavioral change via sound milieu in the areas of education, skills development, and support. Recovery is possible!

Dr. Stephanie Hawthorne, Ed.D.
CCI Certified Eating Disorder Coach
Greetings! I am an Eating Disorder Recovery Coach certified by the Carolyn Costin Institute (CCI).

A little bit about me…I am passionate about this specialized area of coaching. What connects me to it is the ability and opportunity to help others experience freedom from EDs where there is such a gap in access to care. This dedication came about when I discovered that someone close to me was struggling with an ED at a young age, and so I returned to school to earn an Ed.D. with research focused on EDs in young Black women.

Upon graduation and without a clinical background, I sought and was offered a position within an eating recovery treatment center. In this role, I gained practical experience working with individuals, both adolescents and adults, in group settings. As an extension of my research and experience working directly with this population, it’s been my desire to start an organization that serves such individuals. It was natural then for me to pursue a coaching certification to continue my service and advocacy in this area of mental health. Hence, in 2023 Mosaic Recovery was chartered to serve individuals who desire freedom from EDs and would like the guidance and support to do so.

In a nutshell, I have a heart to serve others. I want to see people win! As a Coach meeting them where they are and without judgment, I use tools and training, accompanying empathy, patience, and care, to help clients change their own lives - their thoughts and disordered eating behaviors - in the here and now. And over time on their recovery journey, my clients learn to build peace with food and themselves. My goal is to help you get back to a healthy you!

I work with individuals as well as parents and caregivers. Want to take the next step? Contact me via the button below for a free consultation and be on your way to freedom! You can also reach out to me at MosaicRecoveryCoaching@gmail.com.

Coaching Services
For someone who inwardly struggles with an ED, it can be very emotionally challenging to brave the spaces between treatment sessions with therapists and nutritionists. It’s during this critical time when individuals experiencing these illnesses are navigating real life daily situations that can test their abilities to positively cope and become susceptible to perpetuating the ED cycle by engaging in self-destructive behaviors which continually affects their relationship with food and their bodies. Mosaic Recovery provides practical support, complimenting the services provided by your treatment team such as your therapist, psychiatrist, and/or nutritionist. While your therapist addresses the ‘why’ in your treatment which includes analyzing and providing suggestions for dealing with your past, trauma or psychosocial issues using various therapeutic modalities, Coach Stephanie stays within her scope of practice and works with you on the ‘how’ in the here and now. Her work is client centered and an important part of your community of support. As an integral part of the treatment team process, the coaching provided by Stephanie will reinforce treatment goals as identified by your treatment team and in collaboration with you. Coaching undergirds goals including but not limited to meal support, grocery shopping, clothing support, behavior intervention, as well as other recovery strategies to strengthen your relationship with food, your body, and others. Meeting each client where they are on their personal journeys, Coach Stephanie will serve to fill in the gap during those vulnerable times by offering supplemental care with the use of practical tools to promote healthy recovery and help you overcome your ED. The more you implement these tools, the healthier and stronger you can become, and it becomes integrated into your well-being on your journey toward full recovery. Coaching services are not a substitute for the milieu of therapy from a licensed professional. Mosaic’s services specialize in ED recovery and offer in person sessions as well as via other communication modes like phone calls, videos, texts, and emails for individuals and parents/caregivers.
